Taking the time to curate a motivating culture at your Startup can really pay dividends in motivating your team, attracting new talent, and growing as quickly and efficiently as possible. At this Startup Breakfast Club, we have invited three amazing speakers to discuss Startup Culture.
First off, you’ll hear Marie Webber from Culture by Design speaking about why investing in workplace culture early on is critical for companies of all sizes. Marie has spent over 15 years in a variety of human resources and leadership roles where she has seen the impact of the great and the not so great company cultures can have.
Next up, you’ll hear from Nathan Taylor who’s the COO of Christchurch-headquartered startup, Partly. Partly went through successful fundraising rounds in 2021 and is now experiencing a tremendous growth spurt in team size. Nathan will speak about how Partly approaches building their culture as a fast growing startup.
Last but not least, you will hear from Mahesh Muralidhar, CEO of Phase One a Startup incubator in NZ. Mahesh has held multiple executive roles in some of Australia’s most iconic startups. He has experienced how to build a global Unicorn from the ground up as one of the earliest employees at Canva (SAAS) helping to scale to 200+ people. Mahesh will speak at this event about how to create a winning culture at your Startup.

Marie Webber
Director & Workplace Culture Specialist @Culture by Design
Marie spent a good 15 years in a variety of human resources, OD and leadership roles prior to beginning Culture by Design. This gave her the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience working with workplace cultures around the globe and in both the private and public sectors, lighting a fire under her to find better solutions for organisations struggling to navigate the complexity of workplace culture development.
With degrees from the University of Canterbury (BCom) and Massey University (BBS with 1st class honours) and a range of accreditations, she has the qualifications to support her work, but always favours real-world practicality over theory when it comes to what actually works in organisations.
Marie will be speaking about a topic she is very passionate about – why workplace culture is such an important consideration for startups. |

Mahesh Muralidhar
CEO @Phase One
Mahesh has held multiple executive roles in some of Australia’s most iconic startups. He has experienced how to build a global Unicorn from the ground up as one of the earliest employees at Canva (SAAS) helping to scale to 200+ people. As part of the exec, he had the opportunity to drive operational excellence, helping Airtasker (marketplace) become profitable and go global.
He was the COO at Simply Wall St (Fintech), as it hit an inflection point setting up the right foundations for it to accelerate and grow. Prior to all of this he had his own startup, which lay the groundwork for understanding startup land. He is currently an investor and mentor in Startmate, Australia/New Zealand’s premiere accelerator recently voted in as the 2nd most valuable mentor by the community and has had the opportunity to consult and advise many startups as they navigate their way to success. He is back home in New Zealand, excited about helping New Zealand’s startup ecosystem grow even faster.
Mahesh will speak at this event about how to create a winning culture at your Startup. |
